Are We Ignoring our Regional Languages?


In India, there has been significant rise in number of people learning foreign languages in the recent years. We all are keen to learn international languages and global languages for their economic significance. Many of us join foreign language institutes to learn news foreign languages with wish to earn handsome income and secure job in renowned MNCs. But in midst of qualifying ourselves as foreign language specialists are we ignoring our own languages?

Marathi language is known for having some of the oldest literature of all modern Indo-European, Indic languages, dating from about 1000 AD. Other Indian languages like Sanskrit have been acknowledged by many computer experts in USA and Europe for playing a vital role in the development of computer language.

It is crucial that our own languages must not lose in oblivion. In many governments, like Maharashtra great initiatives has been taken by the government to promote Marathi language at local, national and international platform. 

Today, Marathi is the 19th most spoken language in the world and is the language of millions of people across the globe. Apart from government initiatives, other initiatives like Marathi news papers, Marathi books and latest online access of Marathi literature and Marathi websites have been crucial in promoting the language. Many renowned news papers and Marathi news channels now share live Marathi news to keep people updated. Marathi journalism has got a great response from both, online and offline audience. People usually like to communicate and get information in the language with which they are most comfortable. 

It is the reason why more and more youths are keen to join Marathi journalism. It is important that we should give due respect and take keen interest in our national and regional languages as much we give to others, after all they have played a crucial role in making us understand all other languages of the world.
